Congratulations! Clarington Novice Team Undefeated in Ohio
The Clarington Toros 2001 AAA team recently returned from Ohio where they played a tournament against some of the tops teams in the region. The team was undefeated beating Columbus Blue Jackets, Indianapolis Racers and Team Cleveland 2K1. The team did an amazing job with a record of 4-0 representing the Clarington Toros and Canada at the event.
Throughout the 4 days in Columbus Ohio the team was able to: tour the Nationwide Arena, including the Columbus Blue Jackets dressing room; met and watched some of the players warm up off-ice before the game; watched the Blue Jacket vs. Chicago game; they received a tour of the Ohio State University Buckeye dressing room and watched their game against the U.S.A U18 team. The team is proving that hard work, smart ethic does pay off by only losing one game in the last 13 of their regular season.
The team is led by head coach Rob Pearson and includes: forwards Jesse Barker, Joey Cole, Owen Doorenspleet, Dawson Manning, Zack Nott, Zack Smith, Liam Springgay, Nolan Stevenson, and Brock Strong. 2008/2009 Year End Chairman's Message
A well attended AGM on June 1st brought the end to another successful year for the Clarington Zone. Once again the organization had three teams represent Clarington at the OMHA Tournament of Champions weekend; bringing home two silver medals. Many of our age groups made great strides in their development this year and I’m sure all are looking forward to getting back on the ice in August.
With the AGM came several changes in your Governing Committee team. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Graham Higgins for his leadership and commitment to this organization and its athletes. Kathy Hooey for her diligence in keeping us financially responsible as Treasurer, Wendy Staal for keeping our managers up to speed and prepared for the challenges they would face, Charlene Hollister who represented the Newcastle Village Minor Hockey Association, and Rob Hibbert, who left the CMHA to coach our 97’s . All five of these dedicated volunteers should be commended for a job well done. Thank you!
It is with great pleasure we welcome Gina Smith, who will be assuming the responsibilities of Treasurer and Craig Forde who will be representing Newcastle Village Minor Hockey Association. I would also like to thank Richard Gauvin and Rick Miles who have both assumed the Vice-Chairmen responsibilities. Also new to the team are directors Michelle Walters, Gary O’Donnell, Steve Troughton, and Bob Englebert. I can assure you that this is an energetic Governing Committee that is committed to developing both hockey players and citizens.
In closing, I would like to thank all of our volunteers and players who represented us this past season with class and dignity. I would also like to thank our parents for their continuing support and commitment to our athletes and coaches. Together we can achieve anything.
Have a good and safe summer,
Mark Morissette Chairman Clarington Zone
